How to Play Word Search: Rules and Tips to Find Words Fast
A word search is a grid of letters with words hidden inside it. Your job is to find every word on the list. Words run in straight lines and can share letters with other words.
How to play on Royal Duels
- Each puzzle has a theme, like Royal castle, Animals, Food, Space or Sports.
- Tap the first letter of a word, then tap its last letter. If it matches a word on the list, it turns green.
- Easy hides words across and down only. Medium adds diagonals. Hard uses every direction, including backwards.
Tips
- Look for rare letters first. Letters like Z, X, Q, J or K appear less often, so a word containing them is easier to spot.
- Scan for the first two letters together rather than one letter at a time.
- Go row by row for across words, then column by column for down words.
- Longer words are easier because they cut across more of the grid.
- On Hard, read backwards too.
A bit of history
Word search puzzles became popular in the late 1960s, when they started appearing in American puzzle magazines and newspapers. They're now one of the most common puzzles in the world because they're relaxing, good for vocabulary and easy for anyone to pick up.
