How to Play Solitaire (Klondike): Rules and Tips to Win More
Klondike is the classic Solitaire game that came with Windows for decades. You play alone with one 52-card deck. The goal is to move every card to the four foundation piles, one per suit, from Ace up to King.
The setup
Seven columns are dealt: the first has one card, the second two, and so on up to seven. Only the bottom card of each column is face up. The rest of the deck is the stock.
The rules
- In the columns, build down in alternating colors: a red 6 can go on a black 7.
- You can move a whole face-up run together.
- Only a King (or a run starting with a King) can go into an empty column.
- When you move the last face-up card off a column, the card under it turns over.
- Tap the stock to draw. In Draw 1 you turn one card at a time. In Draw 3 you turn three, and only the top one can be played. You can go through the stock as many times as you like.
How to play on Royal Duels
Just tap a card. It jumps to the best legal spot: a foundation first, then a column. Use Undo freely. When every card is face up, press Auto finish.
Tips to win more
- Free the hidden cards first. Play from the columns with the most face-down cards.
- Don't rush cards to the foundations. A low card can still be useful in the columns to hold other cards.
- Keep an empty column for a King only when you actually have a King ready to move.
- Look at both colors. If you can move a red 5 or a black 5 onto a 6, choose the one that uncovers more.
Not every deal can be won, especially in Draw 3. If you're stuck, start a new game. No shame in it!
