Reaction Time Test: How It Works and How to Improve
The reaction test measures how fast you respond to a visual signal. The screen starts red. After a random wait it turns green, and you tap as fast as you can. You play 5 rounds and get your average time in milliseconds (ms).
Rules
- Wait for green. The delay is random, so you can't predict it.
- If you tap while it's still red, that round counts as a full second.
- Your final score is the average of all 5 rounds.
What's a good time?
Most people land somewhere around 200 to 300 ms on visual tests like this one. Your device and screen can add a little delay, so compare scores on the same device.
Tips to react faster
- Relax your finger just above the screen instead of pressing hard.
- Focus on the center of the box, not on your finger.
- Don't guess. Early taps cost a lot more than being a few milliseconds slow.
- Warm up. Your first round is often your slowest.
Points
An average under 300 ms earns 1 point, and under 250 ms earns 2 points.
